Ministry in Nairobi, Kenya (July 2019)

Image
SfK made a stop over in Nairobi, Kenya, where another SfK missional business is serving people in Nairobi. Karen Huduma consists of four businesses: a tour company, a guest house, a used car sales business and an automobile repair business. This business is owned and operated by Kamal, a Kenya-born third generation Iranian, and Margaret, an authentic Kenyan. Karen Huduma is a missional business in serving the young people in Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa. In this area inhabited by an estimated one million people, poverty is rampant and so is crime. They live in tin shacks, paying $10-20 a month. They do not have their own bathroom and have to share public bathrooms and public shower facility. Naturally, sexual assault and rapes are frequently occurring. Reportedly, many live with less than $1.00 a day. Kamal used to work in a Kibera garage when he became a Christian some 19 years ago because he was cut off from his Muslim family. It is common that th...

Ministry in Rwanda (July 2019)

SfK has a member of its Missional Business Community in Rwanda. It is Nanuri Limited which as a holding company now operates Nanuri Medical Center, Nanuri Guest House and also 2 & 5 Christian Academy. Nanuri is a mission community consisting of resident members and several volunteers who serve on and off on either short term or long term. The following members are the resident members. Nanuri Medical Center aims to serve the patients with the internal medicine and pediatrics under the leadership of a medical doctor couple: Dr. Park, the physician and Dr. Baek, the pediatrician. They went into operations in March so it is still going through the early learning curve and it is premature to establish the sustainability. SfK helped secure some institutional clients for their quality medical services. SfK also led a devotion time with the staff of Medical Center, which takes place twice a week. It is our prayer that they will develop an exemplary missional practice model in the ...

Ministry in Arusha, Tanzania (July 2019)

Image
SfK held its boot camp training in Arusha, Tanzania in July. SfK Tanzania hosted the event at Mianzi Retreat Center that it operates. SS and Youngsoon Kim minister the Tanzanias through this center. SfK Tanzania also carries out One Egg Project in feeding young children with one egg per day in a sustainable manner.  The number of participants turned out to be smaller than expected, but they were eager to learn and put the learned knowledge and skills into practice. We have identified one potential member of SfK Missional Business Community. May the Lord nurture this business according to His will! We also served with the Word of God at Arusha Vineyard Church and Arusha Korean Church. Pastor David Owens is shepherding Arusha Vineyard Church. He used to be a flight attendant while he was pastoring a church. He has a wholistic view of work and business, and we could be great partners for our mutual ministry. SfK Tanzania will work with Arusha Viney...

Ministry in South Asian Nation (July 2019)

Image
SfK participated in a joint ministry in this nation where Christians are often persecuted together with JES from the U.S. The event was carried out in the name of PBC 2019. All who participated in ministering to these brothers and sisters were truly men and women of God who were willing to travel and dedicate their time and talents for the cause. We provided plenary education and training in the afternoon and evening on business management skills and stewardship. SfK gave two lectures about Good Stewardship and Faithful Stewardship. We also visited in the morning many businesses and a few ministries that endeavor to achieve sustainability through businesses. They were eager to learn and passionate to improve their business management skills. SfK held a separate meeting with a dozen businessmen and business professors to see if they are interested in hosting SfK MBA boot camp training. From this group of people, a few businesses expressed their desire to be part of...

SfK Ministries Newsletter - JULY 2019 - "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love." (Galatians 5:13) THE CALL TO SERVE    The following is a June 25, 2018 devotional by Dr. Charles Stanley, founder of In Touch Ministries and New York Times best-selling author. Galatians 5:13 Jesus commanded that we serve one another, but obeying this is not natural for us. Sure, there are times we like to help others. But service that involves self-sacrifice—especially for someone we deem undeserving—is much more difficult to do. What does it mean to serve? Consider Christ’s example. He gave up everything in heaven to live among us, subjecting Himself to dishonor and human frailty. And He loved even those who rejected Him. Think about how He humbled Himself and washed the disciples’ feet at Passover. This was a disgusting, lowly task that a slave mi...
